how to prepare for the CrossFit Open

How to Prepare for the CrossFit Open

The Open is like our race. We’ve been training, and now we get to test our fitness. Even if you’re not doing this to compete, it’s a helpful measuring stick to see how your health and fitness are improving.

Four things to focus on

Intensity. How are your workouts going? Are you working out enough? It is fine to have one or two workouts each week that leave you breathless. But most workouts shouldn’t take you to that dark place. Too many intense sessions lead to an overtaxed central nervous system, which impacts recovery and your ability to keep training.

Recovery. Are you taking enough rest days? Are you sleeping enough? Do you have any nagging injuries? Your ability to recover adequately from workouts has a direct impact on your ability to improve.

Nutrition. Are you eating enough to fuel your level of activity? Are you planful about what you are eating, or just grabbing what you can? What about your hydration?

Skills. Are there any skills you are wanting to obtain or that you are just on the cusp of getting? Your ability to do toes-to-bar, pull-ups, double unders, and your deadlift will greatly affect your success. Spending some focused time on a specific skill can help you jump over that last hurdle.

Coach Nick is available to schedule one-on-one sessions to help you get that skill you’ve been working on. Reach out to book some time.
